New Activities for Yeshurun Members PDF Print E-mail
Following the successful introduction of a Book Club (see their special section on this website), our active-minded members have started a Cycling Club and are about to launch a Film Club.  In October, a new course of Bridge Classes for Beginners is planned.  Surely Yeshurun is more than just a shul with services – it’s a buoyant community!  For more information on any of these activities, contact the Shul Office.

Arguing the Case for Israel PDF Print E-mail

Lorna Fitzsimons at YeshurunIn July. Yeshurun hosted an informed and captivating review of the current challenges in presenting Israel’s case from Lorna Fitzsimons, Chief Executive of Bicom.  In her wide sweeping review of the current situation facing the advocates for Israel, Lorna Fitzsimons pointed out that the real concern of the Methodists’ decision was the alarming implication that Christian Zionism was invalid.

There have been some successes, however, she reported.  The International Trades Union Congress recently refused, against expectations, to back a boycott against Israel, and William Hague is very conscious of the Iranian nuclear threat.  Ms Fitzsimons believes that it is vital for Bicom and the Jewish community to help define the new coalition’s foreign policy and to support Israel’s friends.  She expects that  autumn will be a challenging time with threats which are “real, increasing, and becoming critical” and praised the Yeshurun community for its proactive support.

Yesh Kids Fun Run PDF Print E-mail

Yesh Kids Fun RunYesh Kids, Yeshurun Synagogue’s new “fun learning” post school club for ages 6 to 11 held its first Post Pesach Fun Run on Sunday 11th April.  Over forty of the Cheadle and Gatley community’s younger members participated in the two mile run from the synagogue to William Scholes Park and back.  The photograph shows some of Yeshurun’s younger members after taking part in Sunday’s Fun Run.

The event was organised by Jennie Frieze and on their return the runners were treated to some post run exercises and a Bagel Brunch.  £120 was raised to pay for future activity trips out for the club.

Yeshurun Steam Train Trip PDF Print E-mail

Yeshurun Hebrew Synagogue TripIn November, Cheadle’s Yeshurun Synagogue members, with their friends and families, enjoyed an imaginative Sunday trip out with family and friends on the Churnet Valley Railway

One hundred and sixty excited travellers climbed on the old steam train which puffed through the countryside.

Children (and adults) were able to clamber on to the engine where staff explained the workings of the engine, and they enjoyed stops at the lovingly restored picturesque stations.  With packed lunches and afternoon tea, strolls through the neighbouring countryside, rounded off with Mincha and Maariv service and communal singing on the return journey, a great day was had by all.
