Twenty Years of Women in Judaism

Yeshurun’s pioneering Women in Judaism group celebrated their achievements over 20 years during this year’s High Festivals by mounting a Retrospective Exhibition in the library area of the synagogue.

This fascinating exhibition includes tributes to the work of the Group, memories of their past events (including high profile Guest Speakers), study days, and Simchat Torah Celebrations.

Chanukah Party For The Whole Community

Our wonderful Ladies Guild organised a communal Chanukah party in the shul hall, which was attended by over 200 people, young and old.

Entertainment for the children included face painting face painting and a family disco. Everyone had a great evening, especially with the delicious supper served and of course the traditional doughnuts!
You can see the photos by following the link here – but meanwhile here are some of our favourite memories!

Mitzvah Day Is A Huge Success

roll up their sleeves and help make the wider community in which we live a better place, with a large number of successful activities taking place yesterday.

These included:

* Over 100 new toys and books being donated from the shul members which were donated to the Willow Bank Housing Trust in Benchill

* A great bake-off resulting in a huge supply of cakes and tasty treats, which were delivered to Ashbourne Care House in Gatley, the Seashell Trust in Heald Green and St Anne’s Hospice.

*A litter pick to ensure our streets are clean and tidy

* A visit to Allingham House, where the elderley residents were entertained with music and treated to massage and manicures.

* 40 crates of food collected from Sainsburys and delivered to the Wellspring Homeless Centre and the Cheadle Food Bank in Adswood.

Well done to everyone who organised these events and took part in them too – you each showed the true spirit of Mitzvah Day!

Rememberance Sunday

There was a strong mixture of both young and old last Sunday when members of the 5th Gatley Brownies (Yeshurun’s own Brownie pack) attended the Rememberance Sunday march and service at Cheadle War Memorial, along with war veterans and members of the shul community.

Afterwards we held a brunch for the youth members back at the shul – pictured are some of those who attended.

Showtime At Yeshurun

It’s not often that a shul can introduce a sell-out social event with the words “Direct from Las Vegas…” but last week nearly 200 Yeshurun members and guests were thrilled to spend the evening being entertained by their very own Martin Kaye.

The songwriter, pianist, singer and all-round showman kept everyone entertained with a broad range of musical delights, from his own creations to much-loved songs from musicals and popular tunes.

Currently performing as Jerry Lee Lewis in ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ in Vegas, Martin was back in the Uk for just a week and was delighted to have the opportunity to put on a show for his home community.

Brownies With Green Fingers!

Our 5th Gatley Brownies group have been keeping busy as all 16 girls work towards their Gardening Badge this summer. They have grown courgettes, strawberries, broad beans and three different types of potatoes – the sunny weather has helped them reap a bumper crop!

Seed Partners Say Thank You

Yeshurun’s Seed Programme members hosted a dinner this month to thank their partners for their hard work and dedication over the last few years. The dinner was attended by 18 people with an excellent and inspiring talk by guest speaker Rabbi Yoel Gold.

Rabbi Gold praised and congratulated Seed members and their partners for making the effort to engage in Torah learning, which benefited the entire congregation. Some partners had been learning together for 13 years and all agreed that these encounters have been a mutually enriching experience. Yeshurun Seed members presented their partners with a book as a token of their gratitude. They are deeply appreciative of the efforts of their learning partners who make the weekly trip from North Manchester in order to learn together.
